Are we exercising less?

The average American adult male eats 187 more calories a day than he did 25 years ago. The average female -335 calories more a day; teenage boys - 275 more calories a day.
The question is why?
The answer is because of this one type of sugar.
There is a chemical produced in your body called leptin that tells your brain that you are full after eating.
Your leptin signals aren’t working. There is something wrong with your biochemical feedback mechanism that normally controls your food intake.
What caused it and how do you reverse it?
Let’s look back at what started this epidemic.
The year was 1982.
A study came out that showed high LDL levels lead to heart disease.
And it was discovered that high fat created high LDL levels.
So, the assumption was that if you lowered fat, you would then prevent heart disease.
You know what they say about assuming…
Based on this one study, the American Heart Association, the American Medical Association and the US Department of Agriculture told us to reduce our fat intake from 40 to 30% of our food intake.
And we did.
Everything went fat free… from fat free yogurts to fat free chips and ice cream. Low fat became all the rage.
And we did it. We reduced our fat intake from 40% to 30% of our total diets.
Did it stop heart disease?
Absolutely not. In fact, heart disease soared…
And the average American gained 25 pounds.
It’s not the fat.
All our diets have been based on a 30 year old study with faulty logic.
So if it’s not the fat, what is it? Why are we eating more? Why isn’t our leptin telling our brain we are full and so we eat more and more?
Well, the answers are in the numbers.
We have seen a 41% increase in soft drink consumption and a 35% increase in fruit and sports drink consumption in children ages 2-17 since 1989.
Just that alone is a HUGE piece of this epidemic.
But this isn’t news to you – most of us have some idea that drinking one can of soda a day creates 15.6 extra pounds a year.
But what does it do to your food intake?
If you take a child to a fast food restaurant and give him a can of coke, does he eat more or less?
He eats more.
But how can he eat more if he just consumed 150 calories?
His leptin doesn’t work. There is nothing telling him that he is full.
These sugary drinks suppress the leptin. And the big food companies know it. They are making you fat on purpose so you’ll buy and drink more.
And here’s the smoking gun…
In 1955, the average soda bottle was 10 ounces. Today it is 20 ounces.
They tell you the 20 ounces is 2.5 servings, but we all know everyone drinks the whole thing in one sitting.
And what do the soda drinks have in them?
First, they have a ton of caffeine which makes you dehydrated. Then they have a ton of salt – 55 g in fact - which makes you pee more. Caffeine and salt combined make you very thirsty, so you drink more.
But all that salt doesn’t taste good. So, they HAVE to put in all the sugar to hide the salt flavor.
They know what they’re doing.
But they don’t want YOU to know what they’re doing…
Richard Adamson – Scientist for National Soft Drink Association says –
“There is no association between sugar consumption and obesity.”
Of course he would.
But 88 different independent studies showed that drinking one can of sugary soda a day increases your Body Mass Index by 29.2% in one year.
Those studies funded by the beverage industry repeatedly show smaller effects of sugar on obesity than independent studies.
Interesting that the people that fund the studies get results showing exactly what they want to prove, regardless of the truth.
So, they put in even more sugar.
Prior to WWII, the average American ate 16-25 grams a day of sugar.
By 1978, this number reached 37 grams a day.
By 2008, this number has sky rocketed to 76.6 grams a day:
So, it’s not just that we are eating more, we are eating more sugar.
This is a disaster. The fat’s going down, the sugar’s going up and we’re all getting fat and sick.
But let’s talk about the REAL enemy here. It’s not just sugar.
Specifically, it is one type of sugar called fructose.
For this one, let’s go back in time one more time to 1975.
Sugar was very expensive and the large food companies were looking for a way to sweeten food cheaply.
The solution… an easy, cheap sweetener from Japan called high fructose corn syrup
High fructose corn syrup has a 20% sweeter flavor than sugar (73% more with lab created corn syrup) and is cheap to produce and store.
It was the perfect solution. Replace the costly sugar with the cheap high fructose corn syrup.
BUT, with the higher level of sweetness you would have guessed that food companies used less high fructose corn syrup to replace sugar, right?
Wrong. They use more. Lots more.
Prior to 1975, high fructose corn syrup didn’t even exist in our diets. Today, the average American eats 63 pounds of it a year.
In total, in 1970, the average American ate 70 pounds of sugar a year. Now, with the addition of high fructose corn syrup, that number has doubled to 141 pounds a year.
And it’s in almost everything you eat. Bread, cereal, meats, ketchup, yogurts… the list goes on and on.
If you took away all the foods on a grocery store shelf with high fructose corn syrup in it, you’d only have 20% of the foods left.
Now, bacteria outside your body can cause serious infections.
You see, foods with lots of fiber don’t store very long on grocery store shelves. But if you remove all the fiber, they can last a long time on a store shelf.
But, they end up tasting like cardboard.
So the food companies brought in even more sugar so that you would eat that frozen hamburger patty that has been shipped around the world.
Fiber simply gives food a shorter shelf life, takes too long to cook and takes too long to eat.
We used to eat 100-300 grams of fiber a day. Now it’s 12.
So out it goes.
So, one major problem is that we’re eating more sugar in the form of fructose.
Another HUGE problem is how your body metabolizes fructose.
Fructose does not suppress your hunger hormone, leptin
And fructose can only be processed by the liver.
Do you know what they call a substance that can only be processed by the liver?
That is the definition of a poison.

A study done in 1995 on medical students showed those that only ate natural sugar, sugars found in fruits and vegetables, had almost none of the sugar end up as fat.
Those medical students that ate fructose had over 30% of it end up as fat on their bodies.
You see, a high fructose diet is a high fat diet. Period.
But the FDA refuses to regulate it.
Why? They claim they only regulate acute toxins. They consider fructose a chronic toxin.
